Use a tarp for visible, movable piles
A reusable tarp keeps leaves together without hiding mixed material. Keep the bundle light enough to move and avoid dragging it across delicate paving or irrigation heads.
Use bags only when the contents are clear
Opaque bags make it hard to verify whether a load contains soil, animal waste, plastic, or household trash. If bags are necessary, describe the contents and total count before the visit.
Do not assume a curb pile is allowed
Tracy’s published leaf-season guidance limits curbside leaf piles to leaves during its stated season. Check the current city or hauler rule before using the street as a staging area.
Keep wet leaves separate when possible
Wet leaves compact tightly and weigh more than they look. Tell the estimator if sprinklers or rain have saturated the pile.
Quick checklist
- Photograph the material and the loading route.
- Separate plant debris from trash, soil, rock, and treated wood.
- Measure tight gates and flag stairs or slopes.
- Confirm local curb and organics rules before staging in public space.
